Thoroughly Modern Millie is the third play presented by Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts and Thingamajig Theater this summer season. Kathleen Macari plays Millie in this rendition of the popular 1967 film which was based on the British musical Chrysanthemum (1956). (Kathleen also performs in Legally Blonde the Musical and West Side Story, playing the entire summer season.)
“I am very much like Millie.” Kathleen states. “She has a lot of heart, passion, and drive.” Millie Dillmount is a girl ready to take on the world, knows exactly what she wants and goes for it. Along the way, she finds out about love and herself, while dealing with her current situation in a new city filled with bright lights and sometimes dark secrets. Opening night brought the full house to its feet on several occasions throughout the show.
Kathleen didn’t start off interested in theater like so many others. She was always into sports. “High school, senior year I decided to do theater and wound up going to college for it.” While at Niagara University she was able to study a variety of things including dance, makeup, lighting and more which helped her land various roles right out of college. Her diversity in the arts have led her to work with the ‘Whatchamawhozits’ Children’s Theatre Summer Camp which will be performing Annie Jr. this summer. (This three week camp runs from July 2 to July 19 and will perform Annie Jr. July 20 and 21 at 2pm and July 22 at 6pm. Tickets sold at the door only so arrive early!)
This is Kathleen’s second trip to Pagosa Springs and she absolutely loves it here. “There are nine of us that returned this year from last year. It’s nice to see people you’ve worked with before as well as meeting new ones. We all love this place.”
You can see Kathleen in Thoroughly Modern Millie this summer as well as in Legally Blonde the Musical and West Side Story. Shows have been selling out quickly so get yours before they’re gone!
